Chapter TWENTY-SIX

The next few weeks pass in a blur as I study hard for finals. Kami and I arrange a meeting with Smart Design - the logo and marketing company mom arranged - to discuss designs for our store. We also visit the location frequently, firstly because we’re so excited, secondly because we want everything to be absolute perfect. We want to have maximum use of the space, and we are so excited. We had a brief meeting with a respected builder to draw up plans for the interior, and we also had a consultation with Milan, who is a fabulous interior designer. He had some fantastic ideas, and Kami and I fell in love with him at first sight. Not only does he wear freaking awesome clothes, and shoes to die for, he’s also smoking hot, hilariously funny and so far over the top I think he lives in his own universe.

Things are going smoothly, however we decided to graduate first and then tackle the store with all our focus and energy. We don’t want to be worrying about all things renovation related when we should be studying.

I work with Ruby in the shop three afternoons a week. We get along great and I love the experience I’m getting. My first shift was just four days after I initially discovered Ruby’s Gifts. I walked in as Ruby leaving.

“No better way to learn than to throw you in the deep end,” she said, chuckling as she waltzed out the door.

It was fine for the first twenty minutes or so, just a few customers came in to browse and I made a few sales. Then a bus load of senior citizens pulled up and I was run off my feet for the next hour as I served them, answered questions and did my best not to die of embarrassment when they took it upon themselves to intently peruse every item in the sex room...and I mean every item. Then of course they had questions. What do you do with this? How do I use this? What sort of batteries does this take? Where exactly does this ‘tickler’ tickle? Those were just some of the questions.

I swear to God I have never been more embarrassed in my life. Ruby arrived back at the shop a couple hours after she left and thought it was the funniest thing ever when I recounted my day.

We have also been out a couple of times with the girls. Ruby tagged along and got on great with Kami and the others. Once we went for dinner and drinks for Shauna and Steph’s birthday, another time it was because Marcy got an A- in a class she was sure she was going to fail. Both times we ended up at Deuce to dance the night away, and both times Elliott was coming but then something came up at work. He met me at the end of the night and took me to his place where we had drunken sex, well, it was drunken sex for me anyway.
